Do these three things right now
Most water damage happens in the first half hour. You can stop almost all of it before we arrive.
Turn the water off at the stopcock. It's usually under the kitchen sink. In tenement flats, check the hall cupboard, under the floor where the pipe comes in, or the close.
Switch off electrics near the water at the fuse box. If the fuse box itself is wet, don't touch it — wait for help.
Catch the drips. Buckets, towels, bin bags. Move rugs, furniture and anything electrical out of the way.
What we handle
If water is coming from somewhere it shouldn't, or not coming at all, call us. These are the calls we get most.
- Burst and leaking pipes, including frozen pipes in winter
- Water coming through a ceiling from a bathroom or flat above
- Overflowing or constantly running toilets and cisterns
- Leaking radiators, valves and hot water cylinders
- Leaking shower trays and baths that are coming through the floor
- Blocked toilets, sinks and drains that are backing up
- No water, or a sudden drop in pressure
Once the water is off
Take photos of the damage before you tidy up. Your insurer will want them, and it's much easier to record it now than to remember later.
If you're in a tenement or a flat, tell your neighbours. Water travels down, and the flat below may need to check their ceiling and electrics too.
Open the cold taps to drain what's left in the pipes and switch off the central heating and hot water so the boiler isn't running without water.
Not sure whether it's an emergency? If water is escaping and you can't stop it, or you have no water at all, it is. If it's a slow drip into a bucket and the stopcock is off, it can usually wait for a booked visit — call us anyway and we'll tell you honestly.
When we arrive we'll find the cause, make it safe and fix it properly — not just stop the drip. If the repair needs a follow-up visit, we'll tell you exactly why.
Smell gas? That's a different number.
Get everyone out, don't touch switches or use flames, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. It's free and open 24 hours.
Once the supply is safe, any gas repair is carried out by our independent Gas Safe registered partner engineer (Reg. No. 666283).

FAQ
Emergency questions
What should I do first if a pipe has burst?
Turn the water off at the stopcock, then switch off the central heating and hot water. Open the cold taps to drain the pipes, and keep away from any electrics that water has reached. Then call us on 07414 946731.
Where is my stopcock?
In most houses it's under the kitchen sink. In tenement flats it can also be in a hall cupboard, under the floor near where the pipe comes in, or in the close. If you can't find it, call us and we'll talk you through where to look.
What hours do you take emergency calls?
We answer the phone 7am–10pm, 7 days. If you're out of hours, turn the water off at the stopcock and call us as soon as we open.
I can smell gas. Can you help?
Leave the property, don't use switches or naked flames, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away. That line is free and open 24 hours. Once it's safe, gas repairs are carried out by our independent Gas Safe registered partner engineer (Reg. No. 666283).
Water is coming through my ceiling from the flat upstairs. What now?
Knock on your neighbour's door first so they can turn their water off. Switch off your lights and sockets in that area at the fuse box if water is near them, catch what you can in buckets, and call us. Take photos for insurance before you tidy up.
